Everyone that has worked with Sharepoint knows the importance of iFilters, usually customers want to include in the search funtionality document formats other than the Office ones, to enable this we have iFilters. Well in the Sharepoint 2003 one of the most asked was the PDF from Adobe, this would enable PDF to be included in the search results as well as to get crawled.
And how about 2007, do the ifilters still work? are there new ones available?
Well . . . some are available like the Microsoft Filter Pack that allows the search functionality to index the new Office Formats (.docx, .docm, .pptx, .pptm, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb, .zip, .one, .vdx, .vsd, .vss, .vst, .vdx, .vsx, and .vtx).
For instructions on how to yse them and where to download:
- Office SharePoint Server 2007 register Microsoft Filter Pack instructions
- SharePoint Portal Server 2003 register Microsoft Filter Pack instructions
- Windows SharePoint Services v3.0 register Microsoft Filter Pack Instructions
You can find more information on this subject here.
